Can you call your Local Member of Parliament (MP) and invite them personally to our Parliamentary Forum?

Thanks to your support we have been able to organise a Parliamentary Forum, which will focus on the very high rates of preventable deaths for people with intellectual disability. The forum will be held on Friday 31 March at 12 noon in Parliament House.

The Minister for Disability Services, Hon Raymond Williams will address the forum, as will the Shadow Ministers for Health and Disability.

Your Local MP has also received an invitation. Can you also phone or email your MP and tell them why you want them to attend this forum to help keep the pressure up on the NSW Government?

Parliamentary forum Facebook tile and blog feature imageThe keynote speaker at the forum will be Professor Julian Trollor, Head of the Department of Developmental Disability Neuropsychiatry, School of Psychiatry, University of New South Wales. Dr Trollor will present the findings of his recently released study on the very high levels of preventable deaths for people with intellectual disability. See his summary here.

Speakers will also include our Chairperson, Michael Sullivan, other people with intellectual disability and family and carers of people with intellectual disability who will talk about their first hand experiences in our hospitals and of our health services.

This issue has become particularly critical with the transfer of Ageing, Disability and Home Care (ADHC) services to the Non-Government Organisations (NGO) sector, meaning valuable specialist health services and supports shall be lost, potentially putting people’s lives at risk.

We need more MPs to understand this important issue if we are going to get the funding and the services we need to save lives.

So what do I do?
